"HOLD
ON" This CD presents a
fusion of traditional Zimbabwean mbira melodies with original songs in what
might be called an American folk ballad style. The all-acoustic ensemble
includes a 3-mbira "orchestra" spanning 4½ octaves, steel and
nylon-stringed acoustic guitars, and an acoustic bass guitar. The bright
metallic sound of the mbira keys blends perfectly with the warm strings of the
guitars to complement rich vocal harmonies and soulful lyrics. Featuring
Zivanai Masango (formerly of of Thomas Mapfumo's Blacks Unlimited) on lead
guitar and Rob Ehrlich on "kushaura guitar". Price $15.00 ORDERING

Marimba ava
Murewa TEMPORARILY
OUT OF PRINT All of
the songs on this recording are based upon and inspired by the ancient songs of
the Mbira Dzavadzimu, a sacred instrument of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. The
Music was arranged and composed for the all-acoustic Marimba Orchestra by
combining the melodic structure of the ancient Mbira songs with central and
west African rhythmical elements. To this foundation were added original
lyrics, melodies, and western harmonies to set the spirit soaring while the
body is submersed in the danceable beat. |
